About Vic

Dr. Vic Chamness

Vic Chamness is a lifelong educator and native of Posey County, Indiana. He began his college journey at what was then Indiana State University–Evansville (ISUE), graduating from the University of Southern Indiana (USI) in 1987 with teaching certifications in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Computer Science for grades 6–12. He went on to earn his Master of Education degree from USI in 1990 as part of the program’s second graduating class. Vic continued his professional development through studies at multiple universities, earning his Principal’s License, Education Specialist (Ed.S.) degree, Superintendent’s License, and ultimately a Doctorate in Educational Leadership.

Vic dedicated more than three decades to the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation (EVSC), serving as a teacher, coach, supervisor, assistant principal, and director. From 1997 to 2020, he was an administrator in the areas of science, health education, and digital resources, while also at times overseeing mathematics, physical education, and instructional technology.

In 2020, Vic accepted a new opportunity at Ivy Tech Community College, where he first served as Executive Director of Career Coaching and Employer Connections. In 2022, he transitioned into the role of Educational Technology Coordinator and Campus Instructional Technologist, supporting faculty and students in leveraging technology to enhance learning. His position was later impacted by statewide budget reductions in 2025.

Following his time at Ivy Tech, Vic returned to EVSC in August 2025 as the district’s first Director of Artificial Intelligence and Instructional Technology, where he now leads efforts to integrate AI and emerging technologies into teaching and learning across the corporation.

Vic’s commitment to education extends beyond the traditional classroom. He has taught evening and summer courses at Ivy Tech, USI, Oakland City University, and the University of Evansville. His professional background also includes industry experience with Bristol-Myers Squibb/Mead Johnson, Vincennes University, and GE Plastics (now SABIC).

Deeply engaged in the Evansville community, Vic has served on boards and committees for organizations such as the Evansville Museum, YMCA, Mesker Park Zoo, Wesselman Woods, Youth First, the Koch Family Children’s Museum (cMoe), USI Science Fair, Vanderburgh County Soil and Water Conservation District, Mayor’s Commission on Domestic and Sexual Violence, Evansville Tri-State Manufacturers’ Alliance, EVSC School Community Council, and numerous state and national associations in science education and educational technology.

Throughout his career, Vic has remained passionate about student growth, career development, and using data-driven strategies to help learners reach their full potential. He believes education should be a pathway to purpose and opportunity.

Vic and his wife Sandy live on the west side of Evansville. They are proud parents of three college graduates, all of whom work in STEM-related careers.
